It Really Is All In Your Head A negative mind can make you sick to your stomach.
By Brian Sullivan Are you the type who needs empirical evidence about the effect negativity has on the body and mind?
Well, look no further than volume 72 of one of my favorite all-time classic journals--the Psychotherapy and Psychosomatics (my wife believes I should be a case study). The journal contains a recent study (yes, a real study) that has linked negative emotions with lower immunity in the body.
In short, if you're a negative person, you don't fight disease as well. Which means if you are grumpy, gossipy, or loaded with self-doubt, you just might also feel a little under the weather.
Why?
Well I believe your immune system is always looking for a fight. But it can only fight one battle at a time. If it spends all it's time fighting a negative and diseased mind, then it has limited time and energy to fend off the stuff that can really make you sick. So this week, give your mind and body a break by removing negative words and gossip from your conversations. Take any self-doubt that’s eating you up and remind yourself how good you are. And give others the benefit of the doubt, believing they too have their mind (and heart) in the right place. And while you are out there “spreading the love,” don’t be surprised if your body rewards you with a bit more energy, an extra skip in the step and some of the best nights’ sleep you’ve had in a long time.
