Laughing Your Way to the Bank The money often follows what you enjoy.
Work for the fun of it, and the money will arrive some day. -Ronnie Milsap I don’t often quote 1970’s country-politan stars, but what the heck. After all, Ronnie’s message is a great one.
So what is it with musicians? Last week on my weekly radio show (www.1510.com, Mondays, 9:00 a.m. central), I had a guy named Mr. Stinky Feet as my guest. Mr. Stinky Feet left a high-paying corporate job, grabbed a guitar and began creating and playing children’s music for a living. When I asked why, he said, “I wanted to have fun. I’m not rich yet, but who knows, someday?” He then went on to say that after four years of “working for the fun of it,” Warner Bros arrived with “the money” by offering to sell his CDs and DVDs. The lesson is simple. The by-product of loving your career and doing it for fun is you often make a few bucks. So this week, ask yourself, “Do I love my career?” And if you hesitate to quickly say, “Heck, yes,” then you have two choices to make. Find a way to add life and laughter to your current business, or find a new career opportunity that you think just may be a blast. And if you are like Ronnie Milsap and Mr. Stinky Feet, you may find that the more you smile, the more money you will make. Brian Sullivan may be reached at www.preciseselling.com.
