"Put your personal signature on the job." ~ Barbara Glanz
A few weeks back I received an e-mail from a friend about the impact each individual can have on customer service. The e-mail contained a video produced by a fellow National Speakers Association friend of mine named Barbara Glanz. Barbara's video tells a story about a grocery store bagger named Johnny who took an enormous amount of PRIDE in his job. Johnny, who has Down Syndrome, would go home from work everyday, find an inspirational quote and have his Dad help him print out several copies on his computer. He would then go to work and stuff each bag with his "thought for the day" as customers came through the check out.
One day as the manager walked the store, he noticed that one particular line was three times as long. When he announced that other lanes were open, not a person moved from Johnny's line. People who used to come to the store once a week were now coming three times a week. Soon every department of the store was looking for creative ways like Johnny's to impact customers. Johnny truly transformed the store.
This week, take 30 minutes to think of something you can do for your customers that shows you care about them. By adding your personal signature to the service you provide, you have the power to transform your business.
