Communications Company Celebrates 25 Years
As COMMWOLRD of Kansas City (Class of 2005) enters into its 25th year of business, the telecommunications company is celebrating several achievements. The company was accepted into the Helzberg Entrepreneurial Mentoring Program. Technology Assurance Group (TAG), a national organization of independently owned telecommunications companies, selected COMMWORLD as the winner of their 2005 Outstanding Sales Performance Award and Financial Circle Award for exceptional economic performance and superior customer satisfaction. The company also has won several local business awards.

Marketing Company Acquired
After more than eight years of serving healthcare clients, Christine Hamele has sold Hamele Marketing Communications (Class of 2003) to Boasberg Wheeler Communications. Hamele will join the BWC management team as a senior vice president and will continue to be the lead contact for former HMC clients. She also will take on the new business development function. Boasberg Wheeler is a national marketing communication company based in Kansas City, Mo.

Advertising Company Expands

Gragg Advertising (Class of 2004) has added three full-service clients and eight to 10 project clients in the last three months, expanding its client base in its core industry of education, as well as expanding its reach outside of the Kansas City metropolitan area. The company also is taking steps to win clients in other industries, such as retirement living. To handle the increased workload, the company has added two staff members, Jennifer L. Richards, media buyer and planner, and Jess Vahsholtz, account coordinator.

Nail Salon Opens in Olathe
Loretta Kneebone has begun operating the All American Nail Salon out of her home in Olathe. Kneebone works on acrylic and natural nails and soon will be introducing gels, which are nail enhancement products similar to acrylic but more flexible. She offers manicures that feature warm mitts and elbow-to-finger massages, and pedicures featuring paraffin dips and knee-to-toe massages. She also offers products and techniques to help promote healthy nails. Services include tips and overlays, fills, repairs, sculptured nails, silk and fiberglass wraps, polish and nail art. Consulting Company Wins Award
Easy Street has received a 2005 INNOVATION Award from Electrical Contracting Products magazine. The company tied for first place in the software category for its Total Office Manager accounting and dispatching software. This year’s awards featured 120 product finalists divided into 16 product categories. A panel of professional electrical contractors judged the finalists on innovation, ease of use, cost effectiveness, quality contribution, maintainability and productivity improvements.

HR Company Opens in Overland Park
Dave Stein has opened Leading Edge Solutions at 15274 Long St. in Overland Park. The company uses products and services from Texas-based Profiles International to help businesses assess employees for job fit. Roofing Company Moves
JR & Co. Roofing Contractors has moved to new offices at 5150 NW Waukomis Drive in Kansas City, Mo. The company has focused on the commercial flat or low sloping roofing market, but recently has also increased market share in steep roofing. The company is certified to apply a variety of roofing systems. The company’s customers include schools, restaurants, manufacturing plants, churches and warehouses. Restoration Company Receives Award
The Better Business Bureau of Kansas City recently awarded an Honor Roll Certificate for Excellence in Customer Service to Missouri Contracting and Cleaning Inc., a restoration and remodeling company. The certificate was awarded as part of new program to acknowledge member companies that practice and believe in ethical business standards. The company also was listed in Qualified Remodeler’s Top 500 and won a Chrysalis Remodeling Award for best project in restoration.

Sweet Shop Opens in Bannister Mall
Carol Willis has opened Sweet Expressions in Bannister Mall, at 5600 Bannister Road. Willis bought A Sweet Expression from Debbie Aiman, moved the business from Lee’s Summit to south Kansas City and changed the name. The store offers candy and cookie bouquets, gourmet gift baskets, handmade chocolates and ice cream. Willis also has added a lunch menu featuring beef polish sausages. Staffing Company Celebrates 20 Years
LandaJob, a staffing firm, is celebrating its 20th anniversary. The company started out placing candidates in permanent or full time positions, and eventually added temporary services to the portfolio. The five-member team specializes in providing staffing services to advertising agencies throughout the Midwest.

Dentists Open Office in Shawnee

Artist Adds Accessory Business

Bridgette Chase, owner of Belle Clou Inc., a 20-year-old creative nail design company, also has opened Designs by Bridgette. The accessory business offers home decorating, fashion design, belt design and t-shirt embellishment. Chase also embroiders and embellishes fashion items such as jean jackets, sweaters and jeans. Construction Company Celebrates Groundbreaking
Lenexa-based Straub Construction Company held a groundbreaking ceremony last month for its new headquarters at 7801 Meadow View Drive in Shawnee. The 16,000-square-foot building will feature multiple conference rooms and offices, a full-service kitchen, plan room, storage warehouse and an outdoor patio for social gatherings and events. Completion of the project is planned for July 2006.

Cartridge Refiller Comes to Olathe
Brothers Rob and Terry Ingraham have opened a Cartridge World franchise at 13776 S. Black Bob in Olathe. The company refills cartridges for inkjet and laser printers, photocopy and fax machines. They also offer remanufacturing service for laser cartridges, which means they check the internal moving parts and replace if necessary. The franchise offers free pickup and delivery for businesses. Architects Design Rental Car Headquarters
Berger Devine Yaeger has designed the new regional headquarters for Enterprise Rent-A-Car in Merriam, Kan. Completion of the two-story brick and stucco, 23,000-square-foot building is expected in July 2006. BDY designed the new facility to streamline internal operations and provide an improved environment for employees. The new structure will house employees currently working at several locations around the metro area.

Accessory Shop Opens on Plaza
Hemline, a boutique at 610 W. 48th St. on the Plaza, has opened a sister store next door called Hemline Etc. The new shop offers accessories of all kinds, including shoes, handbags, scarves, jewelry and belts. It will also carry accessories to go with Hemline’s styles, including casual wear, business suits and separates and evening wear from a variety of designers. Call (816) 753-0150 for information.

Education Company Relocates
Steve Waddell has moved the I Support Learning offices to 1546 E. Spruce St. in Olathe. The company has developed immersive, story-based curricula for middle and high school students around the world. The interactive software exposes students to technologies such as artificial intelligence, robotics, video game development and finance and venture capital. The software allows the students to interact as if they were working in the high-tech field. National Speakers Association Accepts Local Accountant
Pam Newman, president of RPPC, Inc., has been accepted as a member of the National Speakers Association. Newman provides training and workshops on a variety of small business topics, including accounting, entrepreneurship and QuickBooks. The NSA provides a directory for meeting planners and program directors looking for an experienced speaker.

Waldo Salon Changes Hands
Robert McCain, a licensed cosmetologist and former stylist for the Kansas City Chiefs cheerleaders’ hair and makeup team, has bought the hair salon at 7429 Broadway in Waldo and renamed it R. McCain. The salon has seven stylists and two nail technicians. Services include haircuts, highlights, manicures, pedicures and facial waxing. Segura Elected to Hispanic Chamber
The Hispanic Chamber of Commerce has elected Nicholas Segura, owner of CHE Creative, to its board of directors, CHE Creative is a direct marketing and communications agency. Segura has been involved with the Hispanic Chamber for three years. In 2004, he became chair of the chamber’s embajadores/ambassadors committee, which recruits and mentors up-and-coming Latino leaders.

Health Care Company Moves
Because of its expanding business and the growth of its geriatric care management practice, Kansas City Home Care, Inc., has moved to 6400 W. 110th St., Suite 200 in Overland Park. The company provides private in-home care services and care management. So it can focus on the increased demand for home care services and client care management, Kansas City Home Care has closed its retail medical supply store in Kansas City, Mo.

HWE, RubinBrown Merge
Henderson, Warren and Eckinger, a locally owned certified public accounting company, has joined with St. Louis-based RubinBrown LLP to grow its Kansas City practice. HWE’s clients primarily are privately held companies in the construction, manufacturing, retail, distribution, medical, legal and not-for-profit industries. In addition to traditional accounting, tax planning and compliance service, the company offers a range of business consulting services, including financial planning and wealth management. RubinBrown serves a variety of commercial businesses, public sector and non-profit organizations, with local, regional, national and international operations.
