Furniture Dealer Launches Non-Profit Extreme Makeover Team Office (Class of 2003) is partnering with other local companies to launch Extreme Office Makeover: Nonprofit Edition, which is similar to ABC’s television show Extreme Makeover: Home Edition. The project will focus on remodeling a non-profit agency in the metropolitan area. Applications including photos and/or video of the nominee’s office spaces will be accepted through October 31. Remodeling Company Wins Award Steed Remodeling (Class of 2003) has won the Kansas City Homes and Gardens magazine’s Gold Award for Best Master Suite Remodel. This is the second year in a row that Steed has one of the magazine’s awards of excellence in residential remodeling.
Internet Company Expands Netchemia (Class of 2004) is providing its netIEP special education management software to Cooperative Association for Special Education and North DuPage Special Education Cooperative, both located just northwest of Chicago. This award comes shortly after a similar contract to Cooperative Association for Special Education, laying a foundation for additional expansion in the state.
Sandwich Shop Adds Location in Lawrence Jimmy John’s sandwich shop has opened its newest Lawrence location at 601 Kasold. The store is open Sunday through Wednesday from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m., and Thursday through Saturday from 11 a.m. to 3 a.m. Matt Brane and Jeff Johnson of Bushwood Investments own the store, as well as three others in Kansas. Local Entrepreneur Wins Design Award Lisa Stenson of Olathe-based Bon Vivant Gift Solutions won third place for Design Excellence at the gift basket industry’s annual convention, The Basket Connection. Stenson’s entry was recognized out of more than 100 entries in the “Name That Business Corporate Gifts” category.

Handmark Raises $5 Million in Funding Handmark has closed a $5 million round of funding. Handmark creates and delivers access to news, references and infotainment content on cellphones and other wireless handheld devices. Handmark will use the new funds to expand its marketing and development resources as the company launches its Pocket Express content publishing platform on more devices and in new markets in North America and Europe.
