Type of Business: Computer Information Technology Consulting

The Business: B2 Technology Consultant offers a full line of information technology products and services that help micro, small and medium-size businesses maintain their competitive advantage. Celebrating six years in the greater metro area, we support businesses, their customers and the community's IT requirements. Services include on-site and remote desktop support, Web site design and hosting, network and wireless design, implementation and support, data security and WI-FI development.

Challenge: The time requirement for completing the application, the amount of personal information required and waiting to hear back were most frustrating for me in the certification process. Our biggest challenge in obtaining contracts is working with government agencies. Every potential vendor must endure a lengthy process that could take months or even a year from the time a bid is submitted to the time the bid is awarded. If you are awarded the bid, it is time well spent. If not, you feel as if it wasted your time. You may submit a hundred or more bids before you get one, so you have to weigh the potential payout.

Advice: Don't be afraid of the paperwork-the potential payoff is too great. Larger companies and government agencies that would have never known we existed have noticed us. Also, use the assistance that is provided by the entities that you are seeking certification with. When going after contracts, spend a lot of time networking. Attend 7:30 a.m. breakfasts or 7:30 p.m. dinners, if necessary. Also, it is important to keep certifications current.
